How to Get Crisp, Vibrant Prints with DTF Transfers

At ColourTransfers.com, we specialise in providing vibrant, full-colour DTF transfers with razor-sharp detail.
But one of the most common reasons artwork fails to print as expected is poor file preparation, especially when dealing with halftone or gradient style graphics.

DTF can handle incredible detail — but only if the artwork is set up correctly from the start.

This guide focuses on how to set up halftone graphics, gradients, and high-detail designs for the best possible DTF print quality.

Clean, High-Resolution Artwork is Non-Negotiable

Pixel_Vector

For sharp results:

  • 300 DPI resolution at actual print size is the gold standard.
  • For line art, logos, and illustrations: Vector formats (AI, EPS, SVG) are always preferred.
  • For halftone or photographic effects: PNG or PSD files with transparent backgrounds at 300 DPI.

✔ Avoid sending pixelated logos, low-res social media images, or screenshots.
✔ Always zoom in to 100% to check your artwork before uploading.

Halftone Graphics: How to Set Up for Best Results

Halftone_Blackout_effect

DTF handles halftone and gradient-style graphics well —
if prepared correctly:

  • Create halftone effects using vector software or high-res raster tools.
  • Ensure your halftone dots are not too small (ideally no smaller than 1pt at print size).
  • Avoid fake halftone effects applied in low-res files — they will look muddy or blocky.
  • Always provide halftone artwork with clean, transparent backgrounds.
  • If printing on a black garment we recommend removing black of the file to create a lighter ink finish
  •

✔ Tip: If unsure, supply your flat artwork and let our team prepare the halftone correctly during our artwork service.

Use RGB Colour Mode for Maximum Vibrancy

Even though we'll convert files for our printing process, design in RGB to keep your colours punchy and vibrant on-screen, giving us the best base for conversion.

Transparent Backgrounds Always Win

Never embed your design on a coloured or white box unless intentional.

  • Supply as PNG, PSD, or vector with transparent background.
  • This allows our team to apply the correct white base and avoid unwanted edges or backgrounds.

Provide Artwork at Exact Size & Clean Up Fine Details

  • Always submit artwork at the exact size you want printed.
  • Check that all edges are sharp, no jagged lines, and gradients are smooth.
  • Thin details and small text should be bold enough to remain visible at final size.
